Art of Song — Soundscape Decisions
In the first phase of the Art of Song you have composed, assembled and arranged your latest song. You are ready to record in the studio. Music production and soundscape engineering are the methods employed in the second phase of the Art of Song.
There are many decisions to be made during your recording session each one impacting the quality of your music. The production goal is delivery of your signature sound. Production tasks include:
1. Select and position your microphone array and set pre-amplifiers;
2. Equalize your instruments and vocals;
3. Adjust your sound frequencies using specific filters;
4. Balance and blend the frequency, gain and bandwidth of your instruments and vocals;
5. Use special effects and spatial, time and spectral techniques to create acoustic presence and texture;
6. Mix and level the recording to seat your vocals properly in the music and apply compression selectively, and;
7. Master your song using compression, limiting and clipping and match its levels with those of other songs in your session release.
